Middle-earth Mythology

J.R.R. Tolkien invented Middle-earth after he was asked to write a sequel to The Hobbit. Until then his stories had been set in a variety of imaginary lands that really had no connection to each other.

Middle-earth became the place where all his imaginary histories were rewoven into a new mythology. Elves, Hobbits, and Numenoreans were all drawn together in a new series of stories that swept away the old mythologies.
